Free Events at the Port Penn Interpretive Center
Delaware City – The staff of the Port Penn Interpretive Center invites the public to a full afternoon of free activities on Sunday, July 19. The afternoon begins at 1 p.m. with Nature Crafts!, a fun and relaxing program for all ages. Local crafter Arie Dortwegt brings his collection of driftwood, pine cones, seeds, pebbles and other items from nature to help participants create natural masterpieces.
After the craft program, visitors may tour the center and its exhibits that present the story of life in the historic wetland communities along the shores of the Delaware River. The afternoon wraps up with a guided Town Tour at 3 p.m. The tour features the grand old homes of Port Penn and stories of the individuals who influenced the history of the town, as well as the scenic marshlands that surround it. Children will enjoy a town scavenger hunt and perhaps a ghost story or two.
The Port Penn Interpretive Center is located four miles south of Delaware City on Route 9. More information is available by calling the Fort Delaware State Park Office at 302- 834-7941, or by visiting www.destateparks.com.
