Grant funding available for sea level rise adaptation planning

DOVER (Sept. 7, 2010) – DNREC Delaware Coastal Programs is announcing the availability of grant funding to support projects and activities that improve local and regional capacity to conserve, manage and promote the incorporation of coastal management issues into local planning and implementation activities throughout Delaware.

This year’s grant will focus on those activities and planning efforts that assist sea level rise adaptation planning, the reduction of coastal hazard-related impacts, increasing local or regional coastal resiliency and/or natural resource management issues.

With these competitive grants, DCP will provide financial and technical assistance to local and state governments and non-profit organizations to increase Delaware’s coastal resiliency through coastal hazards and sea level rise adaptation planning.

Applicants are encouraged to correspond with DCP staff to ensure grant projects meet grant criteria, and to develop a cooperative working relationship to be continued throughout the duration of grant projects for any successful project proposals that are awarded funding.

Additional information, including request for proposals and application form, are located at www.dnrec.delaware.gov/swc/services/Pages/LoansGrantsCostShare.aspx

Proposals are due to the Delaware Coastal Programs Office no later than 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010.

For more information, please contact David Carter (david.carter@state.de.us) or Bonnie Arvay (bonnie.arvay@state.de.us), Delaware Coastal Programs, 302-739-9283.
