Guidance workshops scheduled to help municipal governments apply for energy-efficiency and conservation project grants
DNREC’s Delaware Energy Office offers workshops on April 1, 6, 7 and 14

Guidance workshops to help eligible Delaware municipal governments develop energy-efficiency and conservation grant applications have been scheduled in early April by DNREC’s Delaware Energy Office.

The workshops are being held to assist city and town governments that wish to apply for grant funding to develop and implement projects that: improve energy efficiency; reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions; create and retain jobs in their communities; and stimulate the economy.

A total of $5.46 million in funds is available to municipal governments through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program, for three opportunities – energy audit grants, formula grants, and competitive grants - as part of the $9.59 million in federal stimulus awarded to Delaware in September 2009 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Applications are now available for local governments to apply for funding capped at $10,000 per building and/or $25,000 per local government to have energy audits conducted on government buildings. Examples of eligible buildings include: municipal offices; fire stations; police stations; community centers; and other public buildings owned or operated by the municipality or used for official municipal business.

Eligible local governments include Delaware municipalities that did not receive a direct grant under the EECBG Program from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The workshops are as follows:

New Castle County
10 a.m. – noon Thurs., April 1
Appoquinimink Training Center; 118 S. 6th Street, Odessa, Del. 19730

Kent County

USDA Building; 1221 College Park Drive, Dover, Del. 19901

6 – 7:30 p.m. Wed., April 14

Sussex County
1:30 – 4 p.m. Tues., April 6  DNREC Field Facility, 901 Pilottown Road, Lewes, Del. 19958

At each workshop, the Delaware Energy Office will outline eligible project activities, application deadlines, and federal reporting requirements and will answer questions and assist municipalities with completing the energy audit and formula grant applications.
