Hearing Rescheduled for May 6 on the Coastal Zone Act Permit Application
                                  for Grantham Lane Associates LLC

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has rescheduled the public hearing on the Delaware Coastal Zone Act permit application for Grantham Lane Associates LLC for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 6. The hearing, originally set for Tuesday, April 14, has been rescheduled, because the company has submitted an amended application to the department which is different from the application on public display.

Grantham Lane Associates LLC, a subsidiary of Cirillo Bros. Inc., is located at 761 Grantham Lane, New Castle. The company performs construction work that includes the demolition and excavation of existing structures and roadways.

The company is seeking a Coastal Zone permit to install a construction debris crusher, which will allow them to recycle debris into useful products. The application has been amended to include a diesel powered debris crusher rather than an electric crusher that was originally proposed.

The expected environmental impacts from the diesel crusher include an increase in air emissions of 1.5 tons per year. The company’s proposed offset plan includes: obtaining two tons of emissions credits from the Delaware Economic Development Office; converting a heating plant from fuel oil to propane at one of the buildings onsite; providing a one-time contribution of $2500 for a hot water heater replacement at a local school district; planting 200 native species trees onsite; and removing a solid waste stream from Delaware’s solid waste management system that will help extend the life of existing landfills.

The amended permit application can be inspected at DNREC offices at 89 Kings Highway, Dover; the Air Quality Management Offices, 715 Grantham Lane, New Castle; and at three public libraries: the Hockessin Public Library, 1023 Valley Road, Hockessin; Delaware City Library, 250 Fifth St., Delaware City; and the Wilmington Public Library, 10th and Market Street, Wilmington. For more information, contact Kevin Coyle, principal planner, at 302-739-9909.
