Hearing Rescheduled for Sept. 22 on the Premcor Refining Group Inc. Application for a Dredge and Water Quality Certification Permit for the Valero Refinery in Delaware City
The public hearing on the Premcor Refining Group, Inc. application for a five-year permit for new and maintenance dredging and water quality certification for the Valero Refinery in Delaware City has been rescheduled for 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 22. The meeting will be held at the Delaware City Library, 250 5th Street, Delaware City.
Premcor Refining Group, Inc. (Premcor), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Valero Energy Corp., owns and operates the Valero refinery, 4550 Wrangle Hill Road, Delaware City.
The permit application includes a request to dredge to previously authorized depths in the cooling water intake channel adjacent to the Delaware River. Premcor also seeks to dredge to deeper depths in the berthing area and navigation channel in the river. Disposal of the dredged material will be in confined disposal facilities on the refinery site and excess water will be discharged from the confined disposal facility back to the Delaware River.
The application and supporting documents can be inspected 8:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, at DNREC, Division of Water Resources, Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands Section, 89 Kings Highway, Dover. The application and documents are also available at the Delaware City Library, 250 5th Street, Delaware City, during library hours: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday – Wednesday; 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Thursday; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and 12 – 5 p.m., Sunday.
Comments can be presented orally or in writing at the pubic hearing. Written statements may also be presented prior to the hearing and should be addressed to: Division of Water Resources, Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands Section, 89 Kings Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
