Hearing Set for June 26 on NRG Indian River Operations, Inc. Application for a Permit for Phase II Landfill
DNREC’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Branch will hold a public hearing 6 p.m., Thursday, June 26 at the Millsboro Civic Center, 322 Wilson Hwy, Millsboro on the application for a permit filed by NRG Indian River Operations, Inc. for Phase II of the industrial landfill located on their property at 29416 Power Plant Road near Millsboro.
The application seeks to construct and operate a Phase II landfill for the continued disposal of coal fly and bottom ash on a site adjacent to the Phase I landfill. According to the application, the expansion to Phase II is necessary because the existing Phase I landfill is expected to reach capacity in about a year.
The permit application is posted on DNREC’s website, http://www.awm.delaware.gov/SHWMB/Pages/NRGPhaseIIApplication.aspx
and is also available for review during business hours at DNREC’s Solid & Hazardous Waste Management Branch Office, 89 Kings Highway, Dover or at the Division of Soil and Water Conservation Office, 21309 Berlin Road, Unit 6, Georgetown.
