Hearing Set for Sept. 9 on Premcor Refining Group Inc.
Application for Dredge Permit for Valero Refinery in Delaware City
DNREC’s Division of Water Resources will hold a public hearing 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9 on the Premcor Refining Group, Inc. application for a five-year permit for new and maintenance dredging in the plant’s cooling water intake channel and in the Delaware River adjacent to the plant. The meeting will be held at the Delaware City Library, 250 5
th Street, Delaware City.
Premcor Refining Group, Inc. (Premcor), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Valero Energy Corp., owns and operates the Valero refinery, 4550 Wrangle Hill Road, Delaware City.
The permit application includes a request to dredge to previously authorized depths in the cooling water intake channel adjacent to the Delaware River. Premcor also seeks to dredge to deeper depths in the berthing area and navigation channel in the river. Disposal of the dredged material will be in confined disposal facilities on the refinery site.
The application and supporting documents can be inspected 8:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, at DNREC, Division of Water Resources, Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands Section, 89 Kings Highway, Dover. The application and documents are also available at the Delaware City Library, 250 5th Street, Delaware City, during library hours: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Monday - Wednesday; 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Thursday; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and 12 - 5 p.m., Sunday.
Comments can be presented orally or in writing at the pubic hearing. Written statements may also be presented prior to the hearing and should be addressed to: Division of Water Resources, Wetlands and Subaqueous Lands Section, 89 Kings Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
