Invasive plant workday to be held at Killens Pond on Nov. 21
FELTON – The Environmental Stewardship Program of the Division of Parks and Recreation invites volunteers to spend the morning working in Killens Pond State Park from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 21. Program staff will be hosting an invasive plant workday in the fields near the Water Park, targeting Bradford pears, multiflora rose, bush honeysuckles and other invasive plants that threaten the meadows and the understory of forest habitat throughout the park.
Environmental Stewardship Program staff will assist with identification of both invasive shrubs as well as beneficial native plants. Volunteers should wear work clothes and sneakers or boots. Some of these plants will have thorns; gloves and tools will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own.
Volunteers should plan to meet at 9 a.m. in the Water Park’s overflow parking lot. More information is available by calling Ashley Kroon at 302-242-6004 or via email at Ashley.Kroon@state.de.us.
