Junior Solar Sprint Competition Held May 14 at Polytech High School
It may not be NASCAR, but it still packs plenty of excitement and fun! Delaware’s 14th Annual Junior Solar Sprint Competition began promptly at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 14 at Polytech High School in Woodside.
Our middle school and junior high school students from across the First State designed and built the model cars. These model cars are powered by a solar photovoltaic cell/panel, which converts sunlight into electricity.
This is exciting competition encourages students to join together at Polytech High School to race the cars they’ve built. Racers have time trials and test runs prior to the competition start, and pit crews come equipped with spare parts for possible repairs.
The double-elimination competition had awards for the fastest cars as well as awards for the best car designs. Nine schools participated in this year’s event.
