Kayak eco-tours and rentals available
through mid-October at Cape Henlopen State Park
LEWES (Sept. 9, 2013) – Kayak eco-tours and rentals will continue at Cape Henlopen State Park’s Kayak Shack on Saturdays into mid-October, the park announced today.
Delaware Breakwater Kayak Eco-Tours will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturdays in September and on Saturday, Oct. 12. These guided trips are great for beginning paddlers, but can be strenuous. Single and tandem sit-on-top kayaks are available, and all equipment is provided.
Eco-tours are for ages 8 and up with parent or guardian; solo paddlers must be at least 13. Paddlers should wear secure footwear and clothes that can get wet, and bring water and sunscreen. The fee is $25 per solo kayak and $35 for a tandem kayak. Registration for tours can be made by calling the Nature Center at 302-645-6852.
Kayak rentals are also available on Saturdays in September and Oct. 5 and 12 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The rental includes a solo or tandem kayak, personal flotation device (PFD), seat and paddle. The rentals are for ages 8 and up with parent or guardian. All paddlers must have paddling experience. The fee is $15 per person per hour. Kayaks are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Paddlers should call the Nature Center at 302-645-6852 for information and weather conditions.
The Seaside Nature Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the free Borrow-A-Bike program is available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting. Park entrance fees are in effect.
