Kent, Sussex Conservation Districts to accept applications
for cover crop cost-share assistance June 2-Aug. 8

DOVER (May 21, 2014) – The Kent and Sussex Conservation Districts will be accepting applications for cost-sharing assistance on cover crops and other conservation practices beginning Monday, June 2, through Friday, August 8.  The hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. This is the only sign-up period for this program and it will not be extended. All applications will be ranked based on need and funding availability.

Eligible conservation practices include cover crops, manure storage structures, poultry composters, heavy-use area protections, poultry windbreaks, agricultural waste systems, wildlife habitat ponds, water management, and more. The Sussex Conservation District will also accept applications for tax ditch maintenance, tax ditch mowing, and tax ditch weed-wiper bar. These conservation practices have many positive environmental benefits such as reducing excess nutrients, improving ground water quality, and preventing soil erosion.

Sussex County landowners may apply in person at the USDA Service Center located at 21315 Berlin Road, Unit 4, in Georgetown. Kent County landowners may apply in person at the USDA Service Center located at 800 Bay Road, Suite 2, in Dover.

If you have any questions, please call the conservation district in your county: in Kent County, call Paula Kohout at 302-741-2600, ext. 3; in Sussex County, call Deanna Killen at 302-856-3990 ext. 3.
