Killens Pond State Park and White Clay Creek State Park
to host Great American Backyard Campout event on June 23
NEWARK/FELTON (June 14, 2012) – White Clay Creek State Park and Killens Pond State Park will host special camping opportunities on June 23 as part of the National Wildlife Federation’s annual Great American Backyard Campout event. The Great American Backyard Campout is a national event, attracting more than 170,000 families, youth groups and individual participants last year throughout the U.S. The campout is part of the National Wildlife Federation’s “Be Out There™”campaign, encouraging children and families to experience the outdoors and connect with nature.
The campout at White Clay Creek State Park will begin on Saturday, June 23 at 6 p.m. and run until Sunday, June 24 at 9 a.m. Campers will enjoy activities such as making a hiking stick, taking an evening stroll on the trails and roasting treats by the campfire. Campfire snacks and breakfast are provided, and some tents will be available with advanced registration. This event costs $30 per person. Killens Pond State Park will host its campout from Saturday, June 23 at 6 p.m. to Sunday, June 24 at 10 a.m. The campout will begin by cooking hotdogs over a campfire and setting up camp. Participants can enjoy a kayak trip on the pond at dusk, then relax and roast marshmallows around a campfire. Before heading out on the trails in the morning, a light breakfast will be offered. Campers must register their campouts by June 18th with the specific park and on the Great American Backyard Campout website at www.backyardcampout.org. This website also offers camping resources such as camping tips, recipes, packing lists and activities.
