FELTON (June 8, 2012) – The Water Park at Killens Pond State Park has new hours of operation this year. The pool officially opened Memorial Day weekend, and the Water Park has been open for regular hours of operation since June 2. The new hours of operation for the Water Park are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

The summer season at Killens Pond Water Park promises exciting new special events, parties and activities. The Water Park has planned several original events and launched new programs for different age groups.

New programs at the water park include swim lessons and water aerobics. Swim lessons are available for children ages four to 11. Two three-week sessions are offered in June and July for $40 per session, and classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Beginner, intermediate and advanced courses are offered, and the students will be tested at the first class and placed accordingly.

A water aerobics course is also offered on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for adults 18 and over. Classes are offered in two sessions at $25 per session; Session I is held in June, and Session II in July. Both sessions are offered together for a seasonal price of $45, and classes can also be taken individually at $10 per day. The classes consist of low- impact workout routines and will progress at participants’ pace. Reservations for both programs can be made by calling 302-284-4526.

Killens Pond Water Park also offers party reservations for birthdays and special events June 12th – Aug. 19th. A reservation can be made for up to 20 guests and includes a reserved tent area, free Water Park entrance, access to the water park until closing and one free children’s pass (12 and under) for a future water park visit. Available times for a reservation are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information or to make a reservation, call 302-284-4526.

Special events at the water park this season include the Summer Island Kickoff, a luau-themed event. The kickoff will be held on June 20th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The first 200 guests will receive a free gift. Island-style food will be offered in the concession stand in addition to the regular menu, including Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Virgin Island-style frozen drinks. The Summer Island Kickoff will also have themed games and music throughout the night. This event costs $3.00 per person. Visit www.destateparks.com for information on more new and upcoming events.

The healthy, delicious menu at the water park is also back by popular demand. The menu includes hamburgers made from fresh, lean ground beef, chicken, shrimp, salad, fruits and vegetables. Shrimp skewers and foods prepared on an outdoor grill entice visitors to eat healthy while in the park. The menu is part of Delaware State Parks’ Munch Better campaign, developed after two years of testing for healthy food. The campaign helps educate parents and children about the benefits of healthy eating as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. Camp stores and vending machines throughout the Delaware State Park system continue this mission, offering a greater number of healthy alternatives as well.

The water park features a main pool and baby pool, each with a zero-depth entry, and a Tot Lot for younger children. Each pool has fountains, bubblers or other interactive water features. Visitors will enjoy the two 27-foot high water slides that twist and turn their way to a splash pool below.

Killens Pond State Park is located at 5025 Killens Pond Road in Felton. More information about the new schedule and programs is available by calling 302-284-4299. Information about other programs and events at the park can be found at www.destateparks.com.
