Killens Pond State Park Announces
Boat Rental Preview for Earth Day 2008
Felton, Del. - Boat rentals at Killens Pond State Park have been unavailable since spring 2007 to accommodate construction of the new Killens Pond Nature Center. Construction is nearing completion, and the boat rental stand is scheduled to reopen in May.
However, as a preview, kayaks and canoes will be available to rent from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 for the Killens Pond Earth Day Festival. The boat rental operation will close again after the festival until the first weekend in May. Families and boating enthusiasts are encouraged to visit the park and take advantage of this one-day opportunity.
Killens Pond State Park is centrally located in Kent County, just off of Route 13 in Felton. The park features picnic pavilions, hiking trails, ball fields and a scenic millpond. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified nature center is scheduled to be complete in late summer 2008. Earth Day is celebrated each year on the anniversary of the first Earth Day in 1970. Federal, state, and local governments and environmental organizations throughout the country promote events to honor the day and to encourage the protection of the nation’s natural, historic and cultural resources.
