Killens Pond State Park Announces Coming Events

Killens Pond State Park has announced coming events for February and March. The park is located at 5025 Killens Pond Road in Felton. For more information, call the Nature Center at 302-284-4299 or the Park Office at 302-284-4526.

Something Sweet – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and we are ready to help. Join us as we find great ways to enjoy the holiday. The cost is $5 per person and pre-registration is required. Call 302-284-4299 for registration.

Craft and Story Time – Noon, Saturdays, Feb. 14 and 28
Bring your young ones for our craft and story time series. Each program will feature a different book and includes a variety of take-home crafts. This program is free.

Winter Hayrides – 1 p.m., Saturdays, Feb. 14 and 28
Enjoy a beautiful tour of the park’s forests and fields on one of our winter hayrides. Private hayrides are also available. Meet at the New Nature Center. The cost is $4 per adult and $2 per child. Hot cocoa will be available after each hayride. Call 302-284-4299 for registration.

Bring in the Night Hike – 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 20
Come on a guided hike along a section of the Pondside Trail to discover the nocturnal world of the park. We will learn about the search for owls, beavers and other nocturnal mammals and will join in a search for the insects and amphibians that hop, sing and fly through the darkness while participating in fascinating activities. Meet at the campground amphitheater. Cost is $2 per participant.  Call 302-284-4299 for pre-registration.

Healthy Heart Walk – 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28
The New Year is here, and everyone is trying to stick with resolutions to stay or get healthy. Let us help by taking you on a heart-healthy hike through the park’s trails. The program is free.

Go Green for St. Patty’s – 1 – 4 p.m., Saturday, March 14
Go “Green” for St. Paddy’s with a fun and exciting afternoon filled with programs. Bring the entire family and learn helpful hints and tricks of the trade to green up your lifestyle and protect the environment. Enjoy our fun green and gold scavenger hunt and a hayride through the fields, and head home with a few plantings to make a brighter tomorrow. Cost is $6 per participant. Spring Fling – 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday, March 21
Celebrate the start of spring with a fun afternoon in the park. Join our park staff for a relaxing nature hike on the Pondside trail, a hayride through the meadows, and a kayak trip around the pond. Cost is $10 per participant. Call 302-284-4299 to pre-register.

UPCOMING DAY CAMP INFORMATION
Day Camp Demo – 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, March 28
Do you have questions about camp? Come out to our Day Camp Demo Day and get the answers you are looking for. Bring the family out for a fun day of activities to get a sneak peek at what the summer can hold. Registrations can be made on site. The day’s activities include dip netting, contests, crazy crafts, hayrides, and much more.

Spring Break Camp - 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., April 13 – 17
Don’t want your child just sitting around this spring break? Send them to the Killens Pond Day Camp and let them discover all the amazing opportunities Delaware has to offer. The campers will travel to the beach and try their hands at tracking, archery, kayaking and some survivor skills. Open to children ages 7 to 11. Please call 302-284-4299 for more information and to register. Fee: $125 per child.
