Killens Pond State Park Announces Spring Programs
Killens Pond State Park, located at 5025 Killens Pond Road, Felton, will host a variety of spring programs. For more information about the park or its programs, please call 302-284-4299.
Bring in the Night Hike
Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 14 at 8 p.m.
Saturday, May 30 at 9 p.m.
Come on a guided hike along a section of the Pondside Trail to discover the nocturnal world of the park. We will learn about the search for owls, beavers, and other nocturnal mammals and will join in a search for the insects and amphibians that hop, sing and fly through the darkness while participating in fascinating activities. Meet at the campground amphitheater. Cost is $2 per participant. Call 302-284-4299 to preregister.
Egg-Stravaganza – 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, April 11
Spring is in bloom and eggs are the highlight of the season. Join us as we have fun dying eggs and learning some natural techniques. We will also go on a scavenger hunt, traveling the fields and forest in search of sign of spring and some special prizes. Eggs and supplies will be provided. Cost is $5 per participant. Courseys Pond Paddle – 2 p.m., Saturday, April 11
Journey down the Murderkill with the park naturalist and explore the waters of Courseys Pond. Participants will paddle the water’s edge looking for birds and amphibians in search of some evening food. Cost is $15 per participant. Call 302-284-4299 to preregister.
Arbor Day’s Terrific Trees – 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, April 25
There is no better way to celebrate National Arbor Day than by enjoying nature and all the wonders trees provide. Join our naturalist to learn how to make your own paper, create nature journals, press leaves to preserve their beauty, learn tree identification, and enjoy a hayride. Cost includes your own journal to take home and recycled paper. Cost is $6 per participant. Call 302-284-4299 to preregister.
Scout Day – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, May 2
Calling at Scouts! Come out to the Nature Center and enjoy a day of fun while working toward some badges. We will discover the principles of Leave No Trace, learn a little about forestry, practice animal tracking, taste a few treats over the campfire, and enjoy a hayride through the park. Mother’s Day Delight – 1 – 3 p.m., Sunday, May 10
Bring your mom to the park to create beautiful take-home treasures to remember your day together. Enjoy papermaking, nature journaling, homemade cards, hayrides and flower pressing. Cost is $5 per participant and includes all materials. Call 302-284-4299 to preregister.
Friends All-You-Can-Eat Pancake and Sausage at Applebee’s
8 – 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16
Join the Friends of Killens Pond for some all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage at Applebee’s Restaurant in Milford. All proceeds benefit the Friends of Killens Pond and the Summer Concert Series. This is a great Mother’s Day gift! Cost is $5 per ticket.
Paddling Pondside – 4 p.m., Saturday, May 23
Enjoy the tranquility of Killens Pond by water as we celebrate Memorial Day a few days early. Cost is $15 per participant. Call 302-284-4299 to preregister.
Crazy Kids Day – 10 a.m. – noon, Saturday, May 24
Meet us at the Nature Center for a crazy day of crafts and activities for the kids. We will start with a craft and story, enjoy a hayride through the park, and even shoot off seltzer rockets. Call 302-284-4299 to preregister.
Dip Netting – 4 p.m., Saturday, May 30
Bring your old shoes because we are going dip netting. Join the park naturalist and explore the waterways for signs of life under the water. We will find aquatic insects and then determine whether our water quality is healthy to live in. Call 302-284-4299 to preregister.
Tracks and Traces – 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Sunday, May 31
Test your hand at animal tracking with this fun afternoon of programs. We will start by making animal track casts of our favorite furry friends. While they dry, we will take a hike on the trail to learn about some of the animals that visit the park, and finish with a craft and story.

Spring Break Camp – 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., April 13 – 17
Don’t want your child just sitting around this spring break? Send them to the Killens Pond Day Camp and let them discover all the amazing opportunities Delaware has to offer. The campers will travel to the beach and try their hands at tracking, archery, kayaking and some survivor skills. Open to children ages 7 to 11.
