Killens Pond State Park announces programs for March and April
The public is invited to Killens Pond State Park to enjoy fun and educational programs at the park during the months of March and April. With spring just around the corner, it is the perfect time for families to reacquaint themselves with the park, which features trails, sports fields, a millpond, a new nature center with exhibits and these programs:
Go Green for St. Paddy’s Day
Sat., March 13
10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Visitors will learn how to go green for St. Paddy’s Day with recycled crafts, hayrides, face painting, a green and gold scavenger hunt, energy saving tips and a tour of our “green” Nature Center. $4 per participant ($2 for hayride only)
Spring Signs Paddle
Sat., March 13
2 p.m.
Participants will shake off the winter blues on this brisk paddle to witness the first signs of spring, and listen for spring peepers and look for emerging wildflowers. Registration can be made by calling the Nature Center. Program starts at the boat rental area. $15 per single kayak, $20 per double kayak.
Outdoor Adventures
Sat., March 27
12:30 p.m.
Killens Pond staff leads a relaxing nature hike along the Pondside Trail, a hayride through the meadows, and a kayak trip on the pond. Program begins at the Nature Center. $10 per participant.
DSWA: Earth Day Celebration
Sat., April 17
10 a.m.
The Delaware Solid Waste Authority will be hosting the 10th annual Earth Day Celebration at Killens Pond State Park. There will be activities for the entire family, including hayrides, inflatables, arts and crafts, demonstrations from local artists and more.
Friends of Killens Pond Yard Sale
Sat., April 17
10 a.m.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! is the best way to celebrate Earth Day. The Friends host their first annual Yard Sale. Tables to sell from may be reserved, or visitors may just come for the bargains. Details are available by calling the Nature Center at (302) 284-4299.
Spring Fling
Sat., April 24
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Individuals and families will welcome spring with games and activities at the park’s first annual Spring Fling. Music, games, a mega-inflatable and local vendors will be on hand at the campground. Information is available by calling (302) 284-4299. Park entrance fees are in effect. $1 per person.
UPCOMING DAY CAMP INFORMATION
Day Camp Open House
Fri., March 26
6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Information about day camps, tours of the Nature Center and a sneak peek at what the summer can hold are all part of this Open House. Registrations can be made onsite.
Spring Break Camp
April 5 – 9, 2010
$125 per camper
8:30 – 4 p.m.
Send your child to Killens Pond Spring Break Camp for a week of fun to shake off the winter. The campers will try their hands at tracking, kayaking, survival skills and more!
Killens Pond is centrally located at 5025 Killens Pond Road in Felton, Delaware, just off of Route 13. The park is open from 8 a.m. until sunset, daily. Camping cabins are available year-round, and the park’s campground is now open. Killens Pond Water Park is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
