Landowners Reminded to Report their Cover Crop Acreage
The Kent and Sussex Conservation Districts want to remind landowners participating in their cover crop cost-share programs to report their cover crop acreage by the Monday, June 1, 2009 deadline. New Castle Conservation District cooperators are to destroy their cover crop by June 1 and then follow up with the District for payment.
Eligible cover crops must have been planted and destroyed in accordance with the Cover Crop Cost-Share Guidelines established by the conservation district in each county. Acreage not reported by the deadline will not be eligible for the incentive payments.
Planting a cover crop has a very positive impact on the environment. The cover crop takes up excess nutrients, improves ground water and helps prevent soil erosion.
To report your cover crop acreage, contact the conservation district in your county: in Sussex County call 302-856-3990, ext. 3; in Kent County call 302-741-2600, ext. 3; in New Castle County call 302-832-3100, ext. 3.
