Learn About Fort Delaware’s Ghosts and Legends by Candlelight
PEA PATCH ISLAND, Del. - The staff at Fort Delaware dares anyone who doesn’t suffer from triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13) to come to Pea Patch Island on Friday, June 13 at 6:30 p.m. for a special Candlelight Ghost Tour of Fort Delaware, which was recently filmed to be featured on an upcoming episode of the SciFi Channel’s Ghost Hunters.
Using only lanterns and candles, author Ed Okonowicz and the Fort Delaware staff will guide the public through the most haunted areas of the Fort, and retell its legends. They caution that a ghost or two might make an appearance.
This very popular program is filled by reservation only and books quickly. Visitors are encouraged to make reservations early to avoid disappointment. Tours cost $16 per person, and are limited to groups of 65 or fewer. All departures are from Delaware City. Information and reservations can be obtained by calling 877-987-2757 (877-98-PARKS) or by visiting www.destateparks.com for online reservations.
Fort Delaware is located on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River. During the Civil War, the Fort housed prisoners from the Confederate Army. The Fort staff presents historical reenactments from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays through September 28. Beginning June 18 through August 29, the Fort is also open on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
