Changes in lifeguard hours for Labor Day weekend announced

DOVER - Changes in the hours that swimming beaches in Delaware State Parks are guarded have been announced by DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation. Beginning Monday, Aug. 30 through Friday, Sept. 3, lifeguard hours will be reduced by one hour to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

However, over the busy Labor Day holiday weekend, lifeguard hours will resume their regular schedule, from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. from Saturday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 6 (Labor Day).

Guarded beaches include: Cape Henlopen’s main swimming beach, Delaware Seashore State Park’s southeast inlet swimming beach and Fenwick Island’s main swimming beach.

Delaware Seashore State Park’s Tower Road swimming beach will be unguarded Monday, Aug.  30 through Friday, Sept. 3, but will be guarded Saturday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 6 (Labor Day).

Gordons Pond beach at Cape Henlopen State Park will remain unguarded.

Hours reductions were necessary as a result of lifeguards leaving the area for college.

For more information, call the Division’s Operations Section at 302-739-9200.
