Local Legends Appear at Bellevue State Park’s Summer Concert
WILMINGTON, Del. - Bellevue State Park will host local music icons Crabmeat Thompson and Todd Chappelle for a unique summer concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 8 at the park located at 800 Carr Road, Wilmington.
Thompson, a 2007 recipient of a Delaware Division of the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship in Music, is well-known for his humorous musical commentary about issues from the environment to politics. He draws his material from life as well as his experiences traveling throughout the country and teaching. His ability to establish rapport with any audience makes his concerts wildly popular.
Audiences will also recognize Todd Chappelle’s I’m from Delaware, a strictly Delaware parody of the Johnny Cash hit, I’m from Everywhere. Chappelle’s CD with the same name was named best comedy CD of 2007 by WSTW radio. According to his biography, “Chappelle is a singer-songwriter whose material ranges from the irreverent to the downright silly … His repertoire of humorous songs is meant for adult audiences without being TOO dirty or offensive.”
Now in its 21st year, the Bellevue Summer Concert series offers a wide variety of artists and musical styles. Traditional favorites, such as Big Band standards and show tunes are still part of the line-up, but music such as Zydeco, New Age, and steel drum are offered, as well. Bellevue’s Summer Concert Series truly has something for everyone.
These concerts, held every Sunday and Thursday are offered free of charge (park entrance fees apply). The park staff invites the public to bring a blanket, a picnic dinner and be ready to be entertained.
