Look for DNREC displays at the
2012 Green & Healthy Living Expo on April 14 in Newark
NEWARK (April 10, 2012) – The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will showcase seven exciting programs for the whole family at the 2012 Green & Healthy Living Expo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark. Here’s a preview of what visitors can expect:
- See new Bicycle Trails and Pathways planned statewide!
- Find out what new items you can Recycle in Delaware!
- Add Outdoor Delaware magazine to your reading list!
- Increase your home’s Energy Efficiency by changing light bulbs!
- Explore the Delaware Bayshore … and discover our state’s wild side!
- Learn how a Rain Garden at your home or business can improve water quality!
- Check out the Delaware Envirothon, the statewide environmental competition for high school students!
“The Green & Healthy Living Expo offers environmentally friendly solutions to help Delaware families enjoy healthier, more sustainable lifestyles. To support that theme, we’re highlighting outdoor activities, new ways to recycle, and energy efficiency improvements and budget savings,” said DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara. “DNREC is proud to be a partner on this event, which promotes so many of the same things we encourage every day.”
Organized by Clear Channel Media + Entertainment and presented by the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA), this year’s 5th Annual Green & Healthy Living Expo features more than 75 local and regional vendors and exhibitors, including solar power companies, organic/healthy food stores, home improvement companies, energy saving ideas and environmental organizations.
“The Green and Healthy Living Expo is a great way for families, business leaders and eco-minded consumers to explore the latest environmentally friendly, energy efficient products and healthy services available today,” said Chris Walus, Market Manager of Clear Channel Media + Entertainment Delaware.
The Expo’s KidZone, sponsored by the DNREC Division of Energy and Climate, will host Stefanie Scott from the Disney Channel show A.N.T. Farm signing autographs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids will also enjoy face painting, mascots including Rocky Bluewinkle, YouDee and the Lorax, and other games and activities.
All-day family-friendly entertainment will be live on stage, including jazzercise and zumba demos; performances by the East Coast Nitros Cheerleading Academy and Delaware Diamonds All-Star Cheerleading; and ReCommunity Recycling with DSWA, Delmarva Power, CSS Custom Electronics and Premier Auto and Tire Giveaway.
Visitors to the Expo are also invited to bring the following items to recycle: batteries, eye glasses, cellphones, ink cartridges, plastic bags, nail polish and clothing. The event also includes door prizes, a Fisker car on display and a shredder truck offering free paper shredding from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The 2012 Green & Healthy Living Expo is open to the public, with free admission and parking.
