Millsboro woman dies in personal watercraft accident

DOVER (May 31, 2011) – A 31-year-old woman became Delaware’s first boating fatality of 2011 when the jet-ski she was operating collided with another personal watercraft last Sunday afternoon near Herring Creek on Rehoboth Bay.

Delaware Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement identified the victim as Min L. McManus, of Millsboro. Her Sea-Doo watercraft was struck by another Sea-Doo operated by Brandon C. Bennett, 20, also of Millsboro.

Ms. McManus was pronounced dead by Sussex County paramedics after she was brought ashore. Her body was then turned over to the Delaware Medical Examiner’s office for determining cause of death. Both personal watercraft involved in the accident were seized by Fish & Wildlife Enforcement as evidence in a criminal investigation.

Delaware experienced only two boating fatalities in 2010, ranking the state among the safest in the country for boating.
