Native replanting and invasive plant pull
set for Oct. 24 at the Junction and Breakwater Trail
LEWES - Volunteers are invited to spend the morning working on the Junction Breakwater Trail from 9 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Oct. 24 at Cape Henlopen State Park. The Environmental Stewardship Program of the Division of Parks and Recreation will be hosting a native species replanting and invasive plant pull along the trail north of Wolfe Neck Road.
The work will include will replanting the native ferns, shrubs and trees removed from the trail last September before sewer line construction began. Volunteers also will be hand-pulling the invasive shrub called “wineberry” that invades trail edges and displaces the native understory.
Volunteers should wear work clothes and sneakers or boots. Gloves and tools will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own. Crews will gather at Cape Henlopen State Park in the Wolfe Neck parking lot of the Junction and Breakwater Trail.
