New “Venture Outdoors Fest” for young adults
to be held at Delaware State Parks

WILMINGTON (March 24, 2014) – Get outside and choose an adventure at Delaware State Parks’ “Venture Outdoors Fest,” a new event that will be held on May 3 and 4 at Brandywine Creek State Park.

“Venture Outdoors Fest” invites young adults to explore the outdoors, check out the recreation activities available to them throughout the state park system, and enjoy an evening under the stars.

Participants will take a Delaware State Parks shuttle to the morning adventure of their choice, including mountain biking, rock-climbing, canoeing or kayaking, horseback riding, fly-fishing, exploring Civil War-era Fort Delaware or zip lining at the popular GoApe Treetop Adventure Course at Lums Pond State Park. Afternoon recreational activities back at Brandywine Creek State Park will include orienteering, geocaching, archery and disc golf. Pre-dinner fun features cornhole, ladderball and pickup games of kickball or volleyball.

Local favorite Dogfish Head Craft Brewery will be on hand for dinner with craft brew tastings; the perfect accompaniment to beer-infused bratwurst, and up-and-coming Eastern Shore band “Clifford Keith” will provide music.

The evening ends by the campfire, toasting a marshmallow or two before camping out under the open sky at Brandywine Creek.

“We’re thrilled to be able to offer such an exciting event this year at Delaware State Parks,” said event organizer Daphne Stubbolo, Marketing Specialist for DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation. “It’s unlike anything we’ve done before. We want to show that the outdoors isn’t just a place for hikes and flowers it’s a place for adventure, exploration, and fun. ‘Venture Outdoors Fest’ is our way of reintroducing outdoor recreation to young adults.”

Tickets are $50 a person. Space is limited, and morning activities are on a first-come, first-served basis during registration. Lunch, dinner, and Sunday morning snacks are included at no additional cost.
