New Castle County man, woman arrested by DNREC Natural
Resources Police ECU over pepper spray incident
DOVER (July 17, 2015) – DNREC’s Natural Resources Police Environmental Crimes Unit arrested a New Castle County man and woman Thursday and charged them with reckless endangerment after an incident last month at a Newark apartment complex that left four people suffering from effects of pepper spray and drew emergency responders to the scene when first reported as a hazmat situation.
Brandon M. Avant, 22, of Claymont, and Aliyah Tiller, 19, of Newark, both were charged with reckless endangering and conspiracy after an investigation by DNREC’s ECU into the incident in which an employee at the Hunters Crossing Apartment complex was overcome by fumes and three firefighters reported having respiratory problems after entering the apartment building.
Both Avant and Tiller were arrested without incident and their cases were transferred to the Court of Common Pleas. Each faces fines up to $1,000 and the possibility of a year in prison for each charge.
