New video on YouTube’s Delaware DNREC channel
follows wetland monitoring crew through a tidal marsh

DOVER (Aug. 5, 2013) – Visitors to DNREC’s website are invited to check out “Assessing Wetlands,” a new video on YouTube’s Delaware DNREC channel that takes viewers out into a tidal marsh with the Division of Watershed Stewardship’s Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program.

The Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program monitors the health of wetlands across the state of Delaware with the goal of providing a complete picture of wetland health within the state. The video follows the field crew out into a marsh at the St. Jones Reserve near Dover to witness how tidal assessments are completed.

Wetlands comprise approximately 25 percent of the land cover in the state and provide many benefits to Delaware residents, such as flood storage, water purification, and habitat for economically important wildlife. When these wetlands are filled and converted the benefits they provide to the state are lost.

In addition to “Assessing Wetlands,” the Delaware DNREC YouTube Channel offers more than 50 fun, interesting and educational videos. Most of these videos are written and produced in-house by the DNREC Office of Public Affairs.
