New Castle Boy Wins National Conservation Poster Contest

Yusuf Kose, age 6, of New Castle, Delaware, was presented a $100 check from the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) for his winning entry for grades K-1 in the Association’s national poster contest. Paul Morrill, Chairman, of the New Castle Conservation District (NCCD) made the presentation on behalf of NACD at the District’s monthly board meeting held on March 19.

“You made the New Castle Conservation District proud when you won the state level contest,” Chairman Morrill told Yusuf. “And you made Delaware proud when you won the national contest.”

The contest, sponsored by NACD, provides an opportunity for grade, middle and high school students to convey their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues through artwork. It also highlights the education outreach efforts of conservation districts and their state conservation associations, auxiliaries and agencies. The “Water is Life” theme instilled education and appreciation for the water we use each and every day.

Each year the poster contest starts at the conservation district level. Between Delaware’s three conservation districts a total of 268 posters were judged. Winners at the district level advanced to the state level contest and those winners then advanced to the national contest.

For more information on the poster contest or conservation districts programs, please contact Michelle Jacobs at 302-739-9921.
