New bandshell at Killens Pond State Park ready for first summer concerts

The Summer Concert Series at Killens Pond State Park kicks off on Friday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. with the blues and folk sounds of Sandcreek.  This year’s concert-goers will have an extra treat to enjoy while taking in the free concerts: a new band shell has been completed and is ready for performers to take the stage.

The laminated wood structure has an exposed wood roof and cedar plank sidewalls. It is about 30’ wide and 14’ deep with an attached storage/dressing room at the back.  The concrete stage is close to the ground, allowing visitors to bring their blankets or lawn chairs and get an up-close view of the performers.  The structure was built entirely by Delaware State Parks’ staff.

The Summer Concert Series at Killens Pond features performers every Friday at 6:30 p.m. through Aug. 20.  The concerts are free; however, park entrance fees are in effect.  The series is sponsored in part by the Friends of Killens Pond State Park.

More information about the concerts, picnicking, or exciting nature and recreational programs offered at the park can be found at www.destateparks.com, or by calling 302- 284-4299.  Killens Pond is conveniently located in the heart of Kent County at 5025 Killens Pond Road in Felton, and is open from 8 a.m. until sunset, year-round.
