Nitrogen Tests for Manured Soils Available to Corn Growers

The Kent and Sussex conservation districts are offering the Pre-sidedress Nitrogen Testing (PSNT) Program for manured soils to corn growers in Kent and Sussex counties. The purpose of the test is to help farmers determine whether or not additional nitrogen fertilization is necessary.

Soil samples for testing must be taken when the corn is between 6 and 12 inches in height, and before any additional nitrogen is applied. Farmers who pull their own samples are reminded to place the soil sample in a cooler with a cold pack to ensure accurate results. Test results are normally available within 24 hours.

For more information or to schedule a test, please call your local conservation district office. In Kent County call 302-741-2600, ext. 3 and in Sussex County call 302-856-3990, ext. 3.
