October 4 – First Saturday in the First State – Focuses On Governors
DOVER, Del. – The First State Heritage Park at Dover and partner sites offer special programs on the first Saturday of every month. On Oct. 4, programs will focus on Delaware’s Governors. First State Heritage Park sites open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on First Saturdays include Legislative Hall, State House Museum, Delaware Public Archives, the Delaware Visitor Center and Galleries, the Biggs Museum of American Art, the Delaware Archaeology Museum, the Museum of Small Town Life, and the Johnson Victrola Museum. Admission to all sites is free of charge.
9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Legislative Hall – Delaware’s State Capital Building
Special tours throughout the day of the Hall of Governors will showcase a mixture of fun and little-known facts such as: Which governor was kidnapped? What governor was exiled from our country? Learn the answers to these questions and many more! Free.
10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: The Governor’s Fall Festival at Woodburn-The Governor’s House
Special guided tours of Woodburn as well as food, vendors, and entertainment throughout the day. Free.
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Biggs Kids: Biggs Museum of American Art
Award-winning composer Guillermo Silviera of Buenos Aires is one of the most prolific and fascinating composers of his generation. He will aid the children in creating their own puppets and original songs to be performed at the conclusion of the program.
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Harvest Time at Museum Square Museum Square
Enjoy a host of autumn activities from apple prints to corn husk dolls and more. Free.
Noon – 2 p.m.: Elizabeth Battell: Woman of Distinction – Old State House
Special tours highlighting the life of the tavern owner Elizabeth Battell and the role she played in Delaware becoming the First State. Free.
Noon and 2 p.m.: Governors of the Green. Meet at the Delaware Visitor Center
As the location of the Old State House and town center, the Dover Green has a rich history of governors living and working around the square. Hear some of their stories and revisit their lasting impacts on the state. Free.

The First State Heritage Park at Dover is a partnership of state agencies, under the leadership of Delaware State Parks, working in collaboration with city and county government, nonprofit organizations and the private sector to create Delaware’s first urban “park without boundaries” linking historic and cultural sites in the city that has been the seat of state government since 1777.
