Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Agents on Oct. 2 arrested an Odessa man on 16 charges related to illegal crabbing practices including catching and selling blue crabs without a commercial license.

Following an investigation, agents arrested James J. McElewee, age 60, of 215 Boathouse Road, Odessa, and charged him with not having a commercial crabbers’ license, selling blue crabs without a commercial license, crabbing in an area where commercial crabbing is prohibited, three counts of maintaining crab pots without legally required commercial markings, four counts of possession of undersized crabs and six counts of keeping more than two crab pots in tidal water.

Mr. McElewee was taken to Justice of the Peace Court 9 in Middletown, where he was charged and released, pending a trial in November.
