One weekend only!
Delaware Outdoor Family Campout will teach new campers the basics
at Fort Delaware State Park
DOVER (Sept. 16, 2014) – The Delaware Outdoor Family Program, which began last year as a way to bring families outdoors and into nature, returns this fall for just one weekend - on Sept. 27 - at Fort Delaware State Park. The campout is intended to introduce families to camping as a hobby and offers an exclusive opportunity to camp on Pea Patch Island within the walls of the historic Civil War fort.
This Delaware Outdoor Family Campout is geared towards first time camping families, but all campers are encouraged to take advantage of this night of history that has never before been offered.
The program will feature tent and campfire building, programs such as candlelight tours through restricted areas of the fort, a flashlight scavenger hunt, camping tips and guidance, and a Sunday morning hike.
All participants are responsible for their own meals and are welcome to cook over the designated campfire or the grills already in place on the island. Propane and personal cookers are not permitted. Participants are encouraged to only bring what they can carry and backpack tents are recommended.
Fort Delaware State Park at 302-834-7941 has more information about the new program. Additional information is available at destateparks.com/dof/camping. Information regarding Delaware Outdoor Family programs and regular State Park programs can be found at destateparks.com.
