Pawpaw Folk Festival to be held at Alapocas Run State Park

WILMINGTON (Aug. 18, 2011) – On Aug. 27, the Blue Ball Barn at Alapocas Run State Park will host its first annual Pawpaw Folk Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival will be a family-friendly day of fun-filled activities including music, storytelling, folk art and food.  Admission is free; however, park entrance fees are in effect.

The star of the festival is one of Delaware’s native trees, the Pawpaw.  Alapocas Run State Park has the perfect habitat for the Pawpaw tree, the single food source for the caterpillars that become Zebra swallowtail butterflies.

The day will include two performances by storyteller Clem Bowen; music by Crabmeat Thompson, folk singer Dom and Chapel Street Junction; duck-carver George Williams; Pawpaw tree information and fruit tasting; Zebra swallowtail butterfly lifecycle interactive play for kids; photography demonstrations; antique steam cars and a Raptors in Flight presentation.

More information on the Pawpaw Folk Festival is available by calling the Blue Ball Barn at Alapocas Run State Park, 302-577-1164. This event is partially funded by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
