Polytech student wins National Conservation Poster Contest

Polytech High School senior Noah Link, age 17, of Dover was presented a $100 check from the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) for his winning entry in the special computer generated category for grades 10-12 in the Association’s national poster contest. Paula Kohout, administrative manager of the Kent Conservation District (KCD) made the presentation on behalf of NACD on May 11 during Noah’s visual communications class at Polytech.

“We appreciate you taking the time to enter the contest,” Ms. Kohout told Noah. “Your poster is the second one from Delaware to win at the national level in the past two years.  You made us proud.”

The contest, sponsored by NACD, provides an opportunity for elementary, middle and high school students to convey their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues through artwork. It also highlights the education outreach efforts of conservation districts and their state conservation associations, auxiliaries and agencies. The “DIG IT!  The Secrets of Soil” theme instilled education and appreciation for the importance of soil in our everyday lives.

Each year the poster contest starts at the conservation district level. Between Delaware’s three conservation districts a total of 75 posters were judged. Winners at the district level advanced to the state level contest and those winners then advanced to the national contest.

For more information on the poster contest or conservation districts programs, please contact Michelle Jacobs at 302-739-9921.
