Port Penn Interpretive Center offers
free family programs Aug. 23-24
PORT PENN (Aug. 23, 2013) – Port Penn Interpretive Center will host free family programs on Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24. On Friday at 2 p.m., as part of Port Penn’s Marsh Tails series, staff will read the children’s book “Bat Loves the Night,” written by Nicola Davies and illustrated by Sarah Fox-Davies. The storybook reading is followed by a fun activity for children pre-school through second grade that relates to the story.
On Saturday, families will meet at the Port Penn Interpretive Center at 2 p.m. for a Wetlands Walk, guided by the center’s museum host Rivi Feinsilber. The group will follow the Port Penn Trail and see wetlands and wildlife along the way. Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and insect repellent are strongly recommended.
Both programs are offered free of charge. The Port Penn Interpretive Center, located off Route 9 near Delaware City, is open 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Fridays through Sundays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Admission is free; group tours may be arranged in advance by calling 302-834-7941. More information about Port Penn and programs throughout Delaware State Parks is available at www.destateparks.com.
