Portion of Junction and Breakwater Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park Set to Close for Repairs
DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation will close a section of the Junction and Breakwater Trail for repairs beginning Oct. 27. The repair work - on the 80-foot long bridge that crosses Holland Glade - is expected to take about two weeks, depending on weather conditions.
However, the entire six-mile trail will be open to the public on weekends during the construction period (on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). Repair work will take place Monday through Thursday during the two week period. During that time the rest of the trail will be open for public use. The closure specifically refers to the Glade Bridge area itself.
Repairs will be made to sections of the bridge’s concrete abutment where cracks have recently appeared.
The trail is expected to re-open completely on Monday, Nov. 10.
The bridge, located just south of the Wolfe Neck Road crossing, is on the Junction and Breakwater Trail located about half a mile south of Wolfe Neck Road. The trail can be accessed by parking at the Wolfe Neck parking area or through the bus parking lot behind the Tanger Seaside Outlet.
