Portion of Junction and Breakwater Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park Will Open for Weekend and Will Reopen Permanently on May 22

DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation has announced that a 1.5 mile section of the Junction and Breakwater Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park, which has been closed since Feb. 27 for utility work, will temporarily reopen this weekend, from 5 p.m., Friday, May 15 through 8 a.m., Monday, May 18.

The trail section will then close again until it reopens permanently on the following weekend, beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 22.

“As a result of cooperation within DNREC and among all of the parties, residents and visitors will be able to enjoy this wonderful trail and its scenic views this weekend, before the trail permanently reopens on Friday, May 22,” said DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara. “We appreciate the patience of the community during the construction period.”

The closure of the 1.5 mile section of the trail north of Wolfe Neck Road is to accommodate construction of a new sewer line for Sussex County’s Wolfe Neck Treatment Plant, to improve sewer service in the Lewes area.

During the closure, the rest of the six-mile trail, from Wolfe Neck Road south to Rehoboth Beach, will remain open to the public.

For more information, please call Cape Henlopen State Park at 302-645-8983.
