Public open house at the Brandywine Zoo
to be held on June 9
WILMINGTON (June 5, 2014) – The Brandywine Zoo, The Delaware Zoological Society and Delaware State Parks invite the public to an open house at Blue Ball Barn on Monday, June 9 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The open house will provide an opportunity for the public to meet with zoo and society staff to see and learn about upcoming plans for the zoo. These plans include designs for a dramatic new Tropical Rainforest exhibit currently in development, exciting new animal arrivals and future concepts for repurposing the old monkey house site.
The zoo, open since 1905, is home to large and small mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Major exhibits include bald eagles, Andean condors, river otters, red pandas and Zhanna, the Amur tiger - one of fewer than 500 in existence.
The Brandywine Zoo is located a few steps from the Brandywine River and is accredited by the American Zoological Association. The zoo is managed by DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation with the support of the Delaware Zoological Society. It is wheelchair-accessible and features convenient free parking. The zoo’s education department offers programs for all ages.
The Blue Ball Barn is located at 1914 West Park Drive in Wilmington, near the intersection of Routes 141 and 202, and convenient to I-95.More information about the open house is available by calling 302-571-7788.
