Public workshop for proposed changes to state’s
septic regulations set for October 14 in Georgetown

DOVER (Oct. 3, 2013) – DNREC’s Ground Water Discharges Section will hold a free public workshop Monday, Oct. 14 in Georgetown regarding proposed amendments to the Regulations Governing the Design, Installation, and Operation of On-Site Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems – also known as the state’s septic regulations. The meeting is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. at the Georgetown Cheer Center, 20520 Sand Hill Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.

The proposed amendments for residential and large septic systems include: soil investigations; hydrogeological investigations; design considerations; and operation and maintenance practices. In addition, the workshop will discuss; updating of individual on-site wastewater treatment and disposal system design criteria; creating new licensees and inspection protocols; and establishing performance standards for small on-site systems utilizing alternative technologies and all large systems.

On-site industry licensees, wastewater utility representatives, environmental consultants, and the public are encouraged to attend the workshop and are invited to send written comments before the workshop and at any time throughout the regulatory process by emailing John Hayes, environmental scientist, DNREC Division of Water’s Ground Water Discharges Section. Proposed changes will be discussed during the workshop and public feedback is welcomed. The public also is encouraged to send written comments at any time throughout the regulatory process.

The proposed changes to the Regulations Governing the Design, Installation and Operation of On-site Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems, the Revised Exhibits and additional information have been posted on DNREC’s website, Proposed amendments for on-site wastewater treatment and disposal systems.
