Public Hearing to Be Held June 30 on La Grange Communities Permit Application for Dewatering

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Water Resources will hold a public hearing for the La Grange Communities’ application for a dewatering permit at 6 p.m. Monday, June 30 at the New Castle Conservation District, 2430 Old County Road, Newark.

La Grange Communities submitted an application on Oct. 10, 2007 for dewatering as part of the installation of sanitary sewer lines at its Glasgow property located between Route 40 and Muddy Run, west of Old Route 896. The sewer pipe installation involves digging a trench up to 20 feet deep and extending approximately 2,000 feet west of Old 896, and setting pipe in the bottom of the trench.

This pipe will be used in the future to carry sewage from the proposed La Grange development to the New Castle County Wastewater Treatment Plant. The dewatering permit allows the contractor to pump out clean ground water that may collect in the trench during digging and discharge into a nearby creek.

Interested citizens can view the application at DNREC offices at 89 Kings Highway, Dover. For more information, please contact Bill Cocke, Water Supply Section, 302-739-9945.
