Reminder: Delaware State Parks Offers Free Bikes to Borrow
In addition to free summer concerts, hiking, ocean swimming and more, Delaware State Parks reminds the public that anyone can come to Bellevue State Park in Wilmington, Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes or Trap Pond State Park in Laurel and borrow a bike to ride the park trails for free. The bikes are available through the generous support of groups such as the Friends of Cape Henlopen and Trap Pond Partners. The free bikes offer visitors to these parks the opportunity to take advantage of the beauty of the parks and participate in excellent outdoor recreation whether they have their own bike or not.
To further ensure that everyone has access to bike trails, several agencies in Delaware have collaborated to provide teenagers and adults with disabilities the opportunity to ride a special adaptive tricycle at Bellevue State Park. Healthy Delawareans with Disabilities (a program of the Center for Disabilities Studies at the University of Delaware), in collaboration with several nonprofit organizations and state agencies, arranged the donation after learning that there were no adaptive bikes in Delaware State Parks.
For information about the adaptive bike or using any of the bikes at Bellevue State Park, the public can call the park office at 302-761-6963. Information about free bikes at Cape Henlopen State Park is available by calling 302-645-8983. For Trap Pond State Park call 302- 875-5153.
Park entry fees are in effect from March 1 through November 30. For information about Annual Passes, please call 302-739-9220 or visit www.destateparks.com.
