Sept. 11 Paranormal Investigation tours at Fort Delaware cancelled; tickets remain for tours Sept. 18 and 24, and during October
DELAWARE CITY (Sept. 8, 2010) - There are a limited number of seats still available for Fort Delaware’s Paranormal Investigation on Saturday, Sept. 18 and 24 at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tours will also be conducted on Oct. 2, 8, 15, 16 and 29. NOTE: Paranormal tours scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11, have been cancelled.
Visitors ages 13 and older will participate in an actual investigation with Delaware Ghost Hunters, Inc. Stops will include areas where paranormal activity has been suspected, and investigators will use EMFs, data recorders, and temperature sensors trying to capture unusual sights and sounds. Visitors are welcome to bring their own equipment as long as it is easy to transport.
Areas of the Pea Patch Island Civil War fortress to be investigated may include the fort's prisoner barracks, mess hall, officer's kitchen, ordnance room area and the west end of the Endicott section. The evening will start with a short introduction at the entrance to the fort, after which groups of 10 will be led by a park interpreter to the various areas of investigation. A staging area will feature refreshments, t-shirts and other commemorative items for sale.
The three-hour investigations (including boat travel time to the fort) are available by reservation only. The cost per participant is $40.
Fort Delaware State Park is accessible only by ferry. Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to boat departure to check in at the Fort Delaware dock, 45 Clinton Street in Delaware City. This is a rain or shine program. Visitors should dress appropriately for the weather; no open-toed shoes. In the event of extreme inclement weather making boat travel unsafe, park staff will call registrants with a rain date reschedule.
Registrations may be made by calling 1-877-987-2757 or online at www.destateparks.com. More information about Fort Delaware is available by calling 302-834-7941.
