Suspect Arrested in Indian River Area Crab Pot Theft
Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers arrested a Millsboro man today in connection with a May 31 crab pot theft complaint in the White House Beach area near Indian River.
Following an investigation, Enforcement officers obtained arrest warrants for two suspects in the case. Steven J. Hosier, age 22, of 35390 Main Street, Millsboro, turned himself in at the Georgetown Enforcement Office, where he was arrested and charged with two counts of non-commercial crab pot tampering.
Hosier pled guilty to the charges at Justice of the Peace Court No. 3 in Georgetown and was fined $153 including court costs. The arrest warrant for the second suspect remains outstanding.
“Crab pot tampering is one of our most common complaints during the boating season,” said Sgt. Gregory Rhodes of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement. “People need to remember that only the crab pot owner is allowed to tend the pots.”
Anyone who witnesses crab pot theft or tampering is encouraged to call 302-739-4580 to make a report.
