Sussex man fined for multiple wild turkey hunting violations

DOVER (April 30, 2015) – Following an investigation, DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Natural Resources Police officers arrested a Sussex County man April 27 on multiple charges related to illegal wild turkey hunting practices.

Ronald A. Buggenhagen, 74, of Frankford, was charged with two counts of taking over-the-limit of wild turkeys and two counts of failing to check a wild turkey; and one count each of hunting wild turkeys over a baited area, unlawful possession of wild birds (turkeys) and unlawful possession of wild birds (raptor parts without a permit).

Buggenhagen pled guilty to all charges in Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach. He was fined $1,755 and is prohibited from hunting turkeys in Delaware for two years. He also forfeited three wild turkey beards, a turkey tail fan and a hawk tail fan, which were seized as evidence.

The DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife recognizes and thanks the majority of anglers, hunters and boaters who comply with and support Delaware’s fishing, hunting and boating laws and regulations. Citizens are encouraged to report fish and wildlife and boating violations to the Delaware Fish & Wildlife Enforcement Section by calling 302-739-4580. Wildlife violations may also be reported anonymously to Operation Game Theft by calling 800-292-3030.
