Workshop Set for Jan. 7 on Delaware Surface Water Quality Standards
DNREC’s Division of Water Resources Watershed Assessment Section will hold a public workshop 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7 on the triennial update and review of Delaware Surface Water Quality Standards. The workshop will be held at DNREC’s auditorium, Richardson and Robbins Building, 89 Kings Highway, Dover.
The workshop is designed to encourage public comment and suggestions from citizens on current water quality criteria and standards for all of the state’s surface waters, including bays, rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, wetlands, estuaries and the ocean.
As established under the federal Clean Water Act, Water Quality Standards are the regulations which list designated uses, water quality criteria and an antidegradation policy. The standards have been established to protect public health and welfare and enhance water quality in the state. While the standards are Delaware regulations, they must be approved by the EPA.
Residents from across the state are encouraged to attend the workshop, learn more about Delaware’s water quality standards and provide recommendations for water resources management.
