Workshop on Silver Lake planting project set for May 11
DOVER (April 21, 2011) – The City of Dover Parks & Recreation Department, Silver Lake Commission, and Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will be holding a facilitated public workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11 in the Dover City Hall Council Chambers to discuss two proposed plantings alongside Park Drive in Dover. The plantings are a continuation of the Silver Lake Revitalization Project that was initiated in 2007.
The workshop will discuss the City of Dover’s plan to plant trees, shrubs and flowers along the St. Jones River, specifically along Park Drive, in order to improve water quality and protect stream banks. The restoration project has been ongoing since 2007 and almost five acres of riparian buffer along the banks of the River have been planted. The City, Silver Lake Commission and DNREC welcome input from the community to ensure that the preliminary planting design fits the character and quality that Dover residents uphold and expect.
For more information, call Zachery Carter, director of Dover Parks & Recreation Department, at 302-736-7050 or Lyle Jones, DNREC Watershed Assessment Section, at 302-739-9939.
