Workshop on Wetland Restoration Construction Techniques
set for March 17 at St. Jones Reserve
DOVER, Del. (March 7, 2011) – Back by popular demand, the Wetlands Restoration Construction Techniques Workshop will be held on Thursday, March 17 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the St. Jones Reserve Coastal Training Facility, 818 Kitts Hummock Road in Dover.
The free workshop offers wetland managers, scientists, contractors, and consultants with an excellent opportunity to participate and learn more about wetland restoration.

Organized by the Delaware Coastal Training Program and Division of Watershed Stewardship, the workshop is certified by the American Planning Association and will provide American Institute of Certified Planners with Certification Maintenance credit hours.
Presentation topics include:
· Tidal Wetland Restoration: Melanie Tymes, DNREC Division of Water
· The Potential Effects of Climate Change and Sea Level Rise on Coastal Wetland Restoration: Bart Wilson, DNREC Delaware Coastal Programs
· Wetland Restoration Construction Techniques: Tom Barthelmeh, DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship
On-the-ground wetland construction techniques will be the primary focus of this workshop. Discussion topics will include: the implications of sea level rise on wetlands; tidal wetland restoration; working with landowners; planning; and project agreements. The hands-on portion of the program gives participants the chance to understand and apply numerous wetland construction techniques and best management practices through the construction of a small scale model of a wetland restoration project.
