Workshop set for Jan. 28 on proposed Regulations Governing Underground Injection Control

DNREC’s Ground Water Discharges Section will hold a public workshop on Thursday, Jan. 28 on the proposed State of Delaware Regulations Governing Underground Injection Control (UIC). The workshop will be held 2 - 4 p.m. in the DNREC Auditorium, Richardson and Robbins Building, 89 Kings Highway, Dover.

The workshop will review the proposed version of the UIC Regulations, which includes proposed amendments prohibiting large capacity cesspools and motor vehicle disposal wells (floor drains) which are connected to septic systems.  In addition, the workshop will discuss new changes made to the proposed regulations since the first UIC public workshop held on Aug 13, 2009.

The proposed regulations, along with documents showing revisions since the Aug. 13 workshop, can be viewed on DNREC’s website: http://www.dnrec.delaware.gov/wr/Information/GWDInfo/Pages/GWDSProposedInjectionRegs.aspx.

The automotive/engine repair industry, building industry, contractors, developers, engineers, realtors, and others who may be affected by the proposed UIC Regulations are encouraged to attend.

Individual, private residences are not subject to UIC Regulations, unless a business is operated out of the residence. The UIC Regulations do not address individual septic systems.

Written comments will also be accepted throughout the regulatory process by email to Kathy.Wright@state.de.us or by U.S. mail: Katharyn Wright, DNREC, Ground Water Discharges Section, 89 Kings Highway, Dover, DE  19901.

For questions or more information, contact Katharyn Wright, Ground Water Discharges Section, 302-739-9337.
