World War II History Comes Alive at Cape Henlopen State Park
LEWES, Del. – Visitors are invited to step back to the days of World War II during the Fort Miles special event from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at Cape Henlopen State Park.
The event will feature interactive demonstrations with costumed re-enactors in period uniform, explaining how the artillery that defended the nation’s coast was operated. Visitors will experience the garrison life of soldiers stationed at Fort Miles, and witness a combat exercise demonstration using weapons of the era.
Visitors will learn about the history and future of Fort Miles during a special one-hour tour that includes Fort Miles’ 12-inch gun and details about the incredible progress volunteers have made toward the development of the Battery 519 Museum. Tickets are $3 per person, and may be purchased on the day of the event at the Fort Miles Orientation Building.
The World War II-era fun continues with a swing dance to the sounds of a live Big Band playing music from the 1940s at the Fort Miles Canteen Dance. The dance begins at 1900 (7 p.m.). Visitors will follow the beam of an army search light to the Fort Miles Orientation Building for this annual evening event. Tickets are $15 per individual and $25 per couple for advanced purchase at the Seaside Nature Center; or $20 per individual and $30 per couple at the door. Park entrance fees will be in effect.
